Students and employees of Parkland College are promoting respect and kindness on campus this month.
The college’s Civility Team, which includes more than 35 students, staff and faculty members, decided to observe “Civility Awareness Month” in order to engage more of the campus in “acts of civility”.
After signing pledges of campus civility, employees signed up to participate in events throughout the month that include picking up garbage around campus and offering compliments and hugs to people on campus grounds.
Other events include free movie screenings that bring awareness to disability and gender awareness.
“We seek to have a respectful campus climate,” said Marietta Turner, dean of students, in a press release. “We hope that by using the Civility Statement, we will create more awareness of civility as part of the Parkland College culture.”
