A professor in Psychology at U. of I., Ed Diener, received the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association, which is only awarded to three scientists each year.
The award-winning contribution is based on Diener’s work with measuring well-being, specifically through a Gallup poll. The poll, which surveyed 136,000 people in 132 different nations, investigated the connection between income and happiness.
Diener has been part of the Illinois Psychology faculty since 1974. Currently, Diener is the Joseph R. Smiley Distinguished Professor of Psychology and a professor emeritus.
