Current interim chief of the University Police Department Jeff Christensen has been chosen as the next police chief.

A committee is going to recommend the hiring of Christensen as police chief as well as the University’s director of public safety. These are both interim positions he has held since former chief Barbara O’Connor left Feb. 10.

Christensen attended the University and was hired as a patrol officer in 1985. In 1990, he was promoted to lieutenant and in 2005, he was promoted to deputy chief and assistant director. He will be named the police chief pending an approval of the board of trustees at its July 18-19 meeting in Chicago.
