Champaign police removed a suspicious package from the 400 block of East University Avenue on Tuesday morning.
The package was spotted by a passerby on their way to work around 9:50 a.m. Police were alerted and immediately contacted the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team.
“If a package is deemed suspicious enough the EOD is able to X-ray it in place and identify if any electronic materials are located inside,” Sgt. Don Shelton said.
Shelton followed by saying that no electronic materials were found in the package.
University Avenue between Third and Fifth streets and Fourth Street between Clark Street and Park Avenue were temporarily closed. As of 11:50 a.m. the streets have been reopened to traffic and the package has been removed.
