Urbana City Council passes liquor licensing amendment

The Urbana City Council passed an ordinance to amend liquor license classifications at its meeting Monday.

The new ordinance will allow a new classification that would permit holders of the license to offer samples of their wine, spirits and beer. This amendment comes at the request of the Urbana Business Association to allow venders to sell wine at an arts and wine tasting festival that members wish to hold sometime next year. The council approved the ordinance in a 6-0 vote.

The council also heard officer reports from city staff. According to the reports, the city’s decision to move parking enforcement officers to the financial department was a success. Revenue from the end of the first fiscal quarter was up $23,000, and officers had given out 500 more tickets than at this time last year.
