Champaign activates snow routes

By Daily Illini Staff Report

City of Champaign snow routes were activated at 4 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from the City of Champaign Public Works office.

Vehicles parked on these routes must be moved by 1 a.m. Friday. Activated routes are as follows:

  • University Avenue from State Street to Mattis Avenue
  • Church Street from States Street to Mattis Avenue
  • State Street from Bradley Avenue to Kirby Avenue
  • Randolph Street from Bradley Avenue to Hessel Boulevard

According to the release, vehicles still parked on these routes will be towed to the north end of the Champaign Police Department, 82 E. University Ave., and parking will continue to be prohibited on these streets until the activation ends.

Vehicles can be moved to driveways, non-primary routes or to the Hill Street Parking Deck. Parking in the deck is free from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. and costs 75 cents afterward.

According to the National Weather Service, several inches of snow are possible this weekend before temperatures dip even further early next week.
