Five-star shooting guard Charles Matthews to make decision Wednesday

By Johnathan Hettinger

Five-star shooting guard Charles Matthews will make his college decision on Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m., according to his Twitter account. He will choose between Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette and Michigan State.

Matthews, of Chicago St. Rita, is the top recruit in the state of Illinois in the class of 2015 and No. 12 recruit in the nation according to ESPN. If he chose Illinois, he would be the top recruit since at least Dee Brown in 2002, who was ranked No. 19 in the nation.

Matthews, a combo guard, would likely be the lead guard in Groce’s system – a void he has been unable to fill since coming to Illinois, narrowly missing out on Tyler Ennis, Demetrius Jackson and Quentin Snider.

Illinois already has two in-state commits in the class of 2015: D.J. Williams of Simeon, and Aaron Jordan of Plainfield East.

Williams, a small forward, is the second-best player in the state and the No. 31 recruit in the nation, according to ESPN. Jordan, a shooting guard, is ranked as the No. 10 player in the state of Illinois and not in the nation’s top 60, according to ESPN. Rivals, however, has Jordan has the nation’s No. 60 recruit.
