Search continues for missing man

By Daily Illini Staff Report

The Champaign Police Department is continuing to investigate the disappearance of Cristian Antonio Zamora, a 23-year-old male who has been missing since Dec. 31.

After viewing surveillance video from the area, the Champaign Police Department has determined that Zamora was last seen on the northside sidewalk near the 600 block of East Green Street at 7:27 p.m., said Champaign Sgt. Dennis Baltzell.

Zamora is described as a white male, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds.

The Urbana and University police departments are assisting Champaign police in the search. Zamora’s family has also been soliciting help in the search.

The search for missing adults is a lengthy process, Baltzell said. The beginnings of a search include speaking to people the missing individual was with or spoke to before going missing and checking hospitals.

Then the search moves to cell phone records, social media postings and bank records to see if there are any withdrawals at businesses. By putting the victim in a general area, the police then can look at surveillance video from the area to try to track movements.

This part of the process can be lengthy because investigators have to get the information from other people, like banks and cell phone companies.
