Unofficial citations decrease in 2015

By Daily Illini Staff Report

Fewer citations were issued Friday during this year’s celebration of Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day.

There were 138 city ordinance violations issued this year, compared to the 271 issued in 2014, according to a press release from the Champaign Police Department.

Of these violations, 65 were issued in direct relation to underage drinking. Other citations include public possession, carrying open liquor outside premises, public urination and the sale or delivery of alcohol to minors.

Additionally, five individuals were arrested on state criminal charges and taken to Champaign County Jail, according to the release.

Along with the police response, medical personnel responded to 13 calls and transported eight people for alcohol incapacitation issues.
