Megan Thee Stallion new album is an embodiment of feminine energy

By Zoe Nielsen, staff writer

In the past year, Megan Thee Stallion has blown up and has become one of the most iconic female rappers in the music industry. Her newest album, “Good News,” dropped last Friday. Her past hits, “WAP” and “Savage,” have made this album incredibly awaited by fans and music enthusiasts. Finally, 2020 is going to have some good news.

Megan’s second studio album, “Good News,” features seventeen female empowerment style rap/hip-hop songs. This album has features from big-name artists like SZA, Dababy, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, City Girls and Beyoncé. From start to finish, the set is about 50 minutes of powerful energy.

Megan Thee Stallion has always been known for her lyrics and incredible vocal rap performances. “Good News” does not disappoint in this department. Megan Thee Stallion’s iconic catchphrase, “Real hot girl sh*t,” is featured in the songs. There is something about Megan Thee Stallion’s energy that is unmatched and makes every listener feel her boundless confidence. This album allows listeners to relate to Megan Thee Stallion, with the current news pressing many of her listeners’ lives. With references to Breonna Taylor, many of the songs on this album touch on racial discrimination. There are also mentions of quarantine, where she can relate with her listeners in real-time. Not only does she talk about current pressing issues, even during such an unprecedented time, but she can raise the confidence and morale of her listeners and, indirectly, people all over.

To be fair, there is nothing revelational about the physical music in “Good News.” The album is the perfect example of the saying, “if it’s not broke, do not fix it.” Megan Thee Stallion has a very trendy sound and incorporates many unique sounds throughout her songs, but the music has not changed much in style from her first album. She has a consistent sound, and this album rings true to that.

A listener can hear Megan Thee Stallion’s evolvement through the cohesive storytelling in this album. Listening to the album from start to finish tells the story of a girl with a confident attitude and an ambitious way of showing it. This album shows a straightforward thought process of her songs through meaningful lyrics and demonstrates fun.

Many songs talk about Megan Thee Stallion’s personal life. For example, “Shots Fired,” speculated to be about the infamous Tory Lanez, addresses their past feuds. Other songs are clear bops that her audience has been craving. “Body” and “What’s New” both have the hype up, confident energy Megan Thee Stallion displays. It is impossible to listen to these seventeen songs and not feel an intense feeling of power. Her energy and attitude are contagious, and she continues to normalize women flaunting themselves. Hearing another woman talk so highly and open about herself is admirable and something that the media cannot and will not ignore.

“Good News” is the album that listeners needed this year, and its title is fitting. These songs will undoubtedly plague TikTok and party playlists for the foreseeable future. The confidence and good energy that Megan Thee Stallion brings to her music are incredible, and “Good News” has made it clear she is not going anywhere.
