The Women’s Golf team completed their third consecutive tournament with an Illini golfer finishing top ten at every meet so far this season. This week, the Illini competed at the Briar’s Creek Invitational and came in 11th place.
Senior Tristyn Nowlin and junior Crystal Wang finished tied for eighth in individual rankings after both scoring +4. Overall, the team finished with a score of +38 at the 54-hole tournament.
Nowlin’s eighth place finish is her best out of the whole season. She placed 26th during the Heroes Ladies Invitational and 48th during last week’s Moon Golf Invitational, which were the Illini’s last tournaments, respectively.
This is Wang’s second-best finish of the season. She previously finished 5th place during the first tournament of the season with a score of -5.
Junior Reena Sulkar was the Illini’s third best golfer with a score of +9 and was tied for 30th place. Freshman Isabel Sy was also tied for 74th place with a score of +21.
The Briar’s Creek tournament took place at Johns Island, South Carolina over a two-day span that started Monday morning, March 15. The first-place finish went to the host of the tournament, the College of Charleston with an overall score of +9.
The Illini are currently 46th nationally in this week’s rankings, according to Golfstat NCAA D1 rankings.
During the first tournament of the season, the Illini traveled to Sarasota, Florida (Heores Ladies) where they finished in 10th out of 15 teams that competed.
Last week’s tournament took place in Melbourne, Florida where the Illini finished 7th out of 18 teams. The team managed to tie with a top-10 ranked team from last fall (No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks) and finish ahead of two other previously ranked teams (No. 8 Florida Gators and No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners).
Next week, the Illini will be traveling to Sunset Creek, South Carolina to compete in the Clemson Invitational on Friday, March 26 – Sunday, March 28.
Last year, the Illini weren’t able to compete at the Clemson Invitational because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s competition will take place on Reserve Club at Lake Keowee.

The Illini have two more regular season tournaments before the Big Ten Championships that’ll take place in Maineville, Ohio at the TPC River’s Bend on April 23-April 25.
