Netflix limits password sharing to one household

Netflix will officially begin to limit how many users can log into one account, the streaming service said in a statement posted on Tuesday.

The post, titled “Update on Sharing,” said that “a Netflix account is for use by one household.”

Members of one home will continue to have access to the one account, including when they are “on the go” or “on holiday.”

The post included a copy of the email being sent to “members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in the United States,” which outlined specific features for those wishing to share their Netflix account with others.

As part of the new policy, Netflix encourages users to take advantage of the ability to transfer profiles between accounts or buy an extra membership for a minimum of $7.99 per month.

The statement encouraged Netflix users to continue to use the platform despite this rule change.

“Whatever your taste, mood or language and whoever you’re watching with, there’s always something satisfying to watch on Netflix,” the statement said.
