As July comes to a close, it’s time for the buzz staff to begin preparing for one of the biggest events we cover: Lollapalooza.

Lollapalooza will run from July 28 to 31 with sets from more than 170 artists across nine different stages. Temperatures are forecast to be in the low 80s, with a chance of rain on Sunday.

Discord and Coinbase are two new stages compared to last year while Bud Light Seltzer, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, BMI, Solana x Perry’s and T-Mobile are returning for another year.

‘Kidzapalooza’ is coming back to Lollapalooza for the first time in three years. It features a family-friendly line-up of artists and activities directed at children ages 10 and under. Kidzapalooza will feature performances from The Lucky Band, Q Brothers, School of Rock and The Happiness Club.

Here’s a brief overview of the festival’s day-by-day lineup.

Thursday

It’s the first day of Lollapalooza, and it’s already looking bright.

Performances for Thursday include rapper Tony Velour, gooey-pop singer-songwriter Still Woozy, hyper-pop duo 100 gecs and electronic-pop rapper Ashnikko.

Metallica holds the slot for the day’s longest set, which is scheduled to last around two hours. Other closing acts include hip-hop rapper Lil Baby, pop artist Caroline Polachek and EDM producer Zhu.

Friday

The fun continues with day two, featuring headliners Dua Lipa and Machine Gun Kelly.

Friday’s performers include R&B artist Tinashe, indie-rocker Del Water Gap, indie-pop singer-songwriter Girl in Red and British indie-rock band Wet Leg.

Dua Lipa and Machine Gun Kelly will perform at the festival’s largest stages, with Dua Lipa at T-Mobile and MGK at Bud Light Seltzer. MGK made an appearance at last year’s festival, performing a surprise set at the Bud Light Selzter Sessions side stage on July 31, 2021. Other headliners for the night include Canadian electronic duo Bob Moses and EDM artist Rezz.

Saturday

With Saturday comes a third day of performances across Lollapalooza’s nine stages.

Performances for Saturday include Spanish indie-rock band Hinds, English hard-rock band CRAWLERS, pop singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, indie-rock band Wallows, hip-hop rapper Duckwrth and British rock band Idles.

Kygo, Willow, Kaskade and J. Cole will close out the night.

Sunday

Sunday marks the beginning of the end of Lollapalooza 2022.

Sunday’s performances  include dance-pop artist Charli XCX, alt-pop PinkPantheress, Chicago-based power-pop Beach Bunny, hip-hop rapper Audrey Nuna and neo-psychedelic  artist Djo — known also as Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington on “Stranger Things.”

Like Metallica, punk-rock band Green Day boasts a two-hour slot at the T-Mobile stage to close out the night. Other headliners include rapper J-Hope at the Bud Light Selzter stage, French DJ duo Polo & Pan at the Discord stage and rapper singer-songwriter Denzel Curry at the Solana x Perry’s stage.

Looking to Lollapalooza 2022

Like last year, two buzz writers and the DI’s photo editor are covering Lollapalooza next week. Looking back at our coverage from last year’s festival, I can’t help but wonder where all the time went.

Buzz is in the process of scheduling interviews with a few performing artists, along with  arranging our schedules to cover multiple performances per day. If there’s an artist you’d want buzz to interview or a performance you’d like us to cover, email [email protected] — that’s me, the buzz Editor — with your request.

By Aug. 5, all Lollapalooza 2022 coverage will be published on the buzz page on the DI website. You can also check the buzz page to see real-time story updates throughout the festival.
