The Daily Illini COVID-19 updates for April 19

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced one new case of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Friday.

Of the 95 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus in Champaign County, 30 have active cases, 61 have recovered and four have died. Six people with active cases are currently hospitalized.

On Sunday, the Pritzker administration released its first data about coronavirus patients at long-term care facilities. Nursing homes have been adversely affected; at least 1,860 cases and 286 deaths can be linked to state nursing homes, comprising over 6% of state cases and nearly a quarter of Illinois’ coronavirus deaths.

On Thursday, the University announced an emergency grant program for students facing financial hardships from the coronavirus pandemic. Students can apply for grants of up to $1,000 here, or apply for more in “extraordinary situations.”
