A woman in her 60s with underlying health conditions was the sixth Champaign County resident to die from COVID-19, health officials announced Monday.

She’s the youngest county resident to pass from the disease.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced four more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Monday, bringing the countywide total to 109 cases.

Of the 109 cases, 22 are active, 81 have recovered and six have died. Five people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Less than 5% of Champaign County’s 2,529 tests have proved positive. County health officials recommend anyone with symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and loss of taste or smell — to get tested.

A local mask drive for essential business employees is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the backlot of WCIA 3 News at 509 S. Neil St. in Champaign. Instructions for drop-off can be found on their website.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker called for state educators and students to “prepare” for e-learning next school year during his update conference Sunday. However, he didn’t rule out in-person learning.

“I would prepare for both because it is so unclear,” Pritzker said on Sunday. “Without knowing the answer, e-learning is an important thing for us to develop.”
