The Daily Illini COVID-19 updates for May 1

By Ethan Simmons, News Editor

Illinois’ modified stay-at-home order took effect Friday. Illinois residents above 2 years old must wear a mask in public if they can’t maintain a 6-foot social distance from others.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District announced 14 more cases of the coronavirus in Champaign County on Friday, pushing the countywide total to 149 cases.

Of the 149 cases, 54 are active, 89 have recovered and six have died. Six people with active cases are currently hospitalized. Fewer than 5% of Champaign County’s 3,361 tests have proved positive.

County health officials recommend anyone with symptoms — fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue and loss of taste or smell — to get tested.

Confirmed cases of coronavirus as of May 1, 11 p.m. CDT
