City of Champaign set to celebrate 150th anniversary

The city of Champaign will celebrate its 150th Anniversary in a Unity Celebration on Thursday, revolving around the theme of “our best yesterday, today and the future.”

Zorba’s back in business

One of the biggest draws to the Taste was Zorba’s Restaurant, which made its comeback after the main restaurant burned down in the spring, along with Mia Za’s and the clothing store Pitaya. Zorba’s workers at the event said the restaurant plans to reopen its storefront on Green Street this fall. Several people said Zorba’s drew them to the Taste.

Fewer children among homeless population

According to the survey, 549 people in Champaign County, including 163 children, were homeless in January, when the survey was conducted. The last count held in January 2009 identified 495 homeless persons in Champaign County.
