The city of Champaign will celebrate its 150th Anniversary in a Unity Celebration on Thursday, revolving around the theme of “our best yesterday, today and the future.”

One of the biggest draws to the Taste was Zorba’s Restaurant, which made its comeback after the main restaurant burned down in the spring, along with Mia Za’s and the clothing store Pitaya. Zorba’s workers at the event said the restaurant plans to reopen its storefront on Green Street this fall. Several people said Zorba’s drew them to the Taste.

Champaign-Urbana residents will be walking to help find a cure for cancer this weekend.

As crime has spiked in southeast Urbana, attention has been focused on one of its perceived causes: liquor stores. The city council has already passed an ordinance restricting the amount of liquor licenses Urbana will give out, and it may pass another.

Champaign County Bikes, a local bike advocacy group, will host the second annual C-U Bike to Work Day on Tuesday to promote bicycling over driving to work and school.

With their time in college waning, the class of 2011 is making the most of their days on campus. After all the late night cram sessions, parties and memories made here in Champaign-Urbana, graduating seniors shared seven ways that they will be spending their last seven days.

According to the survey, 549 people in Champaign County, including 163 children, were homeless in January, when the survey was conducted. The last count held in January 2009 identified 495 homeless persons in Champaign County.
