Students host rally to raise awareness of environmental issues

Step It Up, a national organization designed to spread awareness of environmental issues, held a rally Saturday near the Alma Mater. The event was held to make people aware of the changes they believe need to be made to improve the environment.

Students and other participants advocated writing letters urging for a change in climate regulations to politicians. Members held up signs including “Congress, Step It Up” and “Too Hot to Handle.”

Among the speakers at the rally was Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing, who discussed Urbana’s efforts to become more environmentally friendly and its recent recognition as one of the top ten green cities in the United States.
