Davis claims 13th Congressional seat

By Daily Illini Staff Report

According to the Associated Press, freshman Republican Congressman Rodney Davis defeated Judge Ann Callis in his bid for re-election to Illinois’ 13th Congressional seat.

Davis was sworn in to his position in January 2013 and is currently a sitting member of the House Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure committees.

In his first term, Davis introduced the Hire More Heroes Act, which would have allowed employers to exclude military veterans receiving health care from the Department of Defense or the Department of Veterans Affairs from employer insurance mandated under the Affordable Care Act. The bill passed the House of Representatives but failed to pass in the Senate.

In a news release, Callis said she wishes Davis and his family the best as he begins a new term.

“While it’s disappointing we came up short tonight in this tough year for Democrats, it has been inspiring to have met so many incredible people since I resigned as Chief Judge and entered this race,” she said.
