UIPD is investigating reports that a student was fondled early Saturday morning in a University residence hall, according to a campus safety notice.
“The offender, a person unknown to the victim, was described as a college aged male, approximately 5’11 with a medium to muscular build,” the notice read. “The offender has dark brown or black hair that is short in back with long bangs in front.”
The notice was sent in accordance with the Clery Act, which requires higher education institutions to report certain crimes to their communities. The notice comes after a series of sexual assault reports this spring.
“(Campus safety notices) are required by the Clery Act to make sure that students and families have the ability to take steps to protect themselves from crimes in advance,” wrote UIPD Captain Jason Bradley in a statement to The Daily Illini.
Bradley wrote that UIPD seeks to strike a balance between warning the community of area crime and protecting victims through the process of their cases.

“At times, we know that descriptions of the events can seem vague and we see that frustration from online interactions with the community,” Bradley wrote.
UIPD encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 217-333-1216. Online tips can be submitted at the University’s online reporting form.
