By Meghan Montemurro

The Illinois women’s volleyball team came within one set of winning the Dayton Flyer Classic, but fell short in the end losing to Dayton 3-2. The Illini fell to 2-1 on the season after defeating Bowling Green and IPFW.

Freshman Laura DeBruler led the Illini in their first game against Bowling Green, leading the team with 28 kills and hit .323 for the game.

In the second game of the tournament against IPFW, it took only three sets to defeat the Mastodons. Illinois had a strong supporting cast led by senior Vicki Brown with eight kills, six block assists and hit .636 for the game.

Errors doomed Illinois in the final game against the Flyers with eight errors in the last set. Brown stepped up again for the team with 19 kills.

After a week off, the Illini head to the Mizuno Invitational II in Houston, Texas on Friday.
