I would like to thank the Daily Illini for their excellent coverage of the public forum eQuality-CU held on the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
I would also like to add that we have another important event coming up as a part of Equality Across America’s National Week of Action, November 1-8.
I strongly encourage anyone who is supportive of equal rights for LGBT people – including the rights to marry, to serve openly in the military, and to not have to face employment discrimination – to attend a rally at our U.S. Representative Tim Johnson’s Champaign office on Friday, Nov. 6 at 3:00 p.m. We need to show him that the University of Illinois and the broader Champaign-Urbana community strongly supports full equality for all Americans by having as strong of a showing as possible.
Johnson, unfortunately, has failed to sign on to a number of progressive pieces of legislation that would advance equal rights for LGBT people, and it is critical that we hold him accountable.
If you have any questions about the rally or any other events pushing for equal rights for LGBT people, please email us at [email protected].
