Breakfast courses from The Courier Café in downtown Urbana is prepared to be served on Feb. 29.

When looking for a cozy, nostalgic spot by campus to take friends and family alike, look no further than The Courier Café.

Nestled on North Rush Street and only a 10-minute drive from the Main Quad, The Courier Café has been a staple for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert since 1980.

The Courier Café has a menu with vegan, low-calorie and vegetarian options, catering to those with specific dietary restrictions or preferences. The breakfast menu offers dishes from omelets to sausage, and the lunch and dinner menu features a salad bar, soups, scrumptious appetizers like wings and Wisconsin cheese, as well as a kids’ menu for little Illini fans. Their hand-dipped shakes and malts are also a favorite among frequent diners.

Along with having delicious menu options for any time of day for the whole family to enjoy, The Courier Café features a rich history dating back to the 1900s. Alvin Burrows purchased the land where the restaurant now stands in 1916 to create the Courier Newspaper — a popular weekly publication that remained in circulation until 1979. In 1980, the building was purchased and remodeled by the current owner to create the beloved café.

The Courier Café is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
