Janice Mei, sophomore in Engineering, does homework in a hammock on the Main Quad.

Looking for a relaxing way to enjoy the emerging sun and nice weather in Champaign? Look no further than setting up a hammock to nap, read or just enjoy the sunlight and a light breeze.

However, this begs a big question: Where is the best place to hammock? According to this year’s Best of CU voters, the Main Quad has been crowned the top spot.

Located between Foellinger Auditorium and the Illini Union, the Main Quad is the epicenter for student life on campus. Between the greenery it has and the sunlight it attracts, the open space provides a relaxing atmosphere among the hustle and bustle of classes and the more urban parts of campus.

So, to enjoy this calming space, grab a hammock and sling it up between a couple of the many trees that call the Main Quad home. Hammocking can be an excellent way to take a nap, finish up some homework or just sit with friends.

Lie back, sway in the wind and enjoy the peace of the University’s most popular outdoor area.
