Try homemade sooji ka halwa this season

Try+homemade+sooji+ka+halwa+this+season

As we dwell further into this frosty season, our taste buds require something that can warm us on the inside. What’s better than homemade sweets that give a nostalgic feeling?

The recipes of halwa, kheer, laddus and many others are passed on from generation to generation in an Indian household. It holds not only great taste but also brings forth opportunities to experiment with various tastes. Now is your chance to try these yourselves and experience a taste sensation different from the most popular winter dishes.

Sooji ka halwa — Indian semolina pudding — is a classic dish and can be made quickly and efficiently.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 and ½ cup water
  • Chopped dry fruits/nuts of choice.
  • Cardamom powder
  • ½ cup semolina (also referred to as sooji)

Method:

  1. Add semolina and butter to a pan and roast it on medium heat. You can also microwave the dish until it turns golden brown in color.
  2. Add water slowly.
  3. Add sugar and stir in with water.
  4. Stir continuously to avoid lumps until the mixture is semi-solid.
  5. Garnish the dish with nuts and cardamom powder.

It’s ready to serve! Careful — I know the smell is enticing once plated, but it’s hot.
